I was wondering if more expensive food really makes a difference compared to brands like Purina or Monge that I find at Carrefour. My German Shepherd is doing well with what he eats now, but we hear a lot of conflicting opinions at the park.
It really depends on the cat and what you actually see in the results, like the quality of their coat or how energetic they are. Premium brands like Orijen have better ingredients and less filler, so yeah the food is actually different, but if your German Shepherd is already doing fine with what they're eating, you don't necessarily have to spend more - sometimes it's more about marketing than actual results. What really makes a difference is if you notice digestion problems, allergies or a dull coat: in that case yeah, trying something more specialized could help, but you'd be better off asking your vet who knows your dog instead of trusting random opinions from people at the park.
With my dog I noticed a real difference when I switched from Purina to Royal Canin, especially in the coat which became way shinier and in digestion which improved - fewer liquid poops, basically. But you don't necessarily have to throw money at Orijen if your German Shepherd is already doing fine, I mean if he's got energy, his coat looks ok and zero stomach issues then don't stress about it. Maybe try switching gradually if you want to test a better brand, but honestly if the dog's doing well it's also a matter of your budget - I'm a rider so I know I can't always afford the top-tier kibble, it depends on what deliveries I get that month.
