If you're looking at it as an investment, then yeah, rare Lego sets do go up in value, especially the ones that have been discontinued. But it's a long-term thing - you won't get your money back quickly, and finding a buyer for a specific set isn't always easy. As a hobby, collecting is cool if you actually like the sets themselves; for investment purposes, you'd be better off picking genuinely rare and sought-after versions rather than just grabbing everything.
