I've been thinking about opening an Upwork account for a few months to do writing jobs, but I see there are thousands of freelancers. Is it still viable to land decent clients or has it gotten way too saturated? I'd rather stick with platforms where you can actually make a living, not just earn a few euros on the side.
If you're going to get into it, the key is having a solid portfolio from day one - without that you'll drown in the crowd of people offering the same thing. Upwork is still viable for writing, but you have to be willing to take smaller jobs at first to build up your reputation and raise your rates later; a lot of people get discouraged quickly because they expect to make good money right off the bat, when really it takes time.
