Is my 2.9 GPA too low for decent universities?

I'm a junior in high school right now and my GPA is sitting at 2.9. I know it's not great, but I've been dealing with some personal stuff and my grades took a hit in freshman and sophomore year. I'm doing better this year (mostly As and Bs), but I'm worried that colleges won't even look at my application. Should I bother applying to state schools or am I basically stuck with community college?

A 2.9 isn't disqualifying for state schools, especially if you show an upward trend - which you're already doing with those recent As and Bs. Have you thought about which states you're targeting, or are you looking at schools in a particular region? Also, how are your test scores looking (SAT/ACT), since that can help offset GPA concerns at a lot of institutions.
