Perplexity is genuinely good for certain types of search, especially academic and technical ones, because it takes a different approach than Google - it shows sources, synthesizes information, and focuses on contextualizing answers. But "replacing" is another thing entirely. Google still remains more complete for everyday use because it has more indexed data, works better with vague or local searches, and integrates with everything (maps, shopping, videos). If Perplexity were enough for everything, everyone would've already switched, right?

The drawbacks you're probably overlooking: Perplexity can make up sources sometimes (it happens with these tools), its database isn't nearly as vast for obscure things or real-time updates, and for visual or exploratory searches Google is way better. Plus, not everything is integrated - if you need local results, specific images, or today's news, you'll end up going back to Google anyway.

The smartest thing is to use both. Perplexity when you want a well-structured, well-sourced answer on a specific topic, Google when you're exploring or looking for something quick. It's not replacement, it's complementary 👍
