Vinegar essence or citric acid in hot water is your best first solution - just let it sit overnight. For heavy buildup, a mechanical drain cleaner can help too, but I'd try the chemical option first since it's less aggressive. If nothing works, you'll unfortunately have to call a plumber who can open up the pipe and physically remove the limescale. You can prevent it with regular vinegar rinses, especially if you have hard water.
What a lot of people forget: after chemical treatment with acid, you absolutely have to rinse thoroughly with clear, hot water - otherwise the limescale stays in the pipes in a different form and you just make things worse. If the pipes are really clogged, sometimes air pressure cleaning works better than mechanical methods - it literally blasts the limescale apart without breaking anything.
Don't start with drain cleaner granules if you're not sure how bad it is yet - that stuff can do more damage than good if there are fine cracks. What worked for me was running warm water with citric acid through overnight, then flushing it out the next morning several times with really hot water until there's absolutely no more acid taste in the water. If that doesn't help after two days, I'd call a professional then instead of trying stuff yourself - with old pipes you can easily mess something up.
