I refused military service in 2008 and had to do civilian service instead. Now I'm wondering if that was normal back then and how long those procedures actually took. Does anyone have similar experiences?
Did you actually submit a reason back then, or was it just a blanket rejection? That was completely normal at the time - lots of people did it. The Bundeswehr regularly received applications like that, and then you'd just get conscripted into civilian service instead. The procedures took different amounts of time depending on how complete your application was and how busy the authorities were - some got through it in a few weeks, others took months. There's nothing you can do retroactively anyway; all those documents are probably long gone by now.
