My son carries an expensive phone to school in 7th grade, I'm worried about theft

мария94 UA 📗 Student 👁 39 ⚑ Report School Kids

We bought him an iPhone 15 for school, but now I'm worried that his classmates might get jealous or he'll lose it. There have already been cases of things going missing at his school. Maybe I should give him something cheaper instead, or is there a way to make it safer?

I wouldn't swap out the phone. Instead, I'd teach your son to take care of it - explain that expensive things need to stay with him, not left in a locker or on a desk! Turn on the tracking feature (Find My works great on iPhones), set a strong password, and agree that he's not showing the phone around to everyone - that'll cut down on envy. If it does go missing, at least you can find it or lock it remotely! Plus, switching to a cheaper device later could actually be worse for the kid's head, especially if he finds out you deliberately downgraded him to soften his heart.
