My vision got worse over the past year even though I wear glasses

I've been wearing glasses for five years now and haven't changed the prescription. But recently I noticed that I'm having trouble reading letters on road signs, which used to be fine. Could this be because I spend the whole day staring at a monitor at work? Do I need to see an ophthalmologist urgently?

You should definitely get your vision checked by an ophthalmologist - it can definitely change over the course of a year, especially if you haven't updated your prescription in a while. Working long hours in front of a monitor can actually speed up the progression of myopia or cause eye strain, but that's not the main thing - you need to find out if your refraction has changed and whether you need new glasses. The doctor will check for other possible causes (cataracts, astigmatism, and so on), so don't put it off. While you're at it, tell them about the monitor - if it really is affecting your vision, the ophthalmologist can suggest ways to reduce the strain.
