Perplexity actually shows you the sources directly, which is handy for research because you can see where the information is coming from - with ChatGPT you have to dig more on your own. Whether it's more up-to-date though, I'd question that. Both tap into similar data sources, so the differences aren't as huge as people often claim. Just try Perplexity out, it's free anyway, and see if the workflow suits you better - sometimes it really just comes down to what you're used to, which tool feels more comfortable to you personally.

ChatGPT is still practical for me for quick, surface-level questions, but for real research you can't go wrong with Perplexity. The key difference: Perplexity searches the current web in real time, while ChatGPT works with older training data. That doesn't mean ChatGPT is always wrong, but for current topics or when you need source citations, Perplexity really saves you time. Is it worth switching? More like a complement - I'd use both in parallel, depending on what you need at the moment.

I tried it myself because I needed reliable info for my research - and the source citations in Perplexity are really a huge advantage 🔗 You can see directly where the answer comes from and verify it yourself, instead of constantly asking ChatGPT "but where does that come from?" You notice the difference too with current topics, Perplexity is just quicker on the draw there.

That said: it doesn't automatically mean Perplexity is always better. For exploratory research, where you're more in brainstorming mode, ChatGPT can sometimes be more comfortable. I'd say just try both in parallel for two weeks and see which workflow feels better for you - it doesn't have to be either/or 😊
