What works best is keeping the ingredients separate until you open it at work. I put the lettuce and veggies in one container, the dressing in another (preferably one of those small jars with a screw-top lid), and if you're gonna add protein or cheese you put it in a third compartment.

The trick is not mixing anything until you're about to eat, because the salad gets all soggy right away if everything's been sitting together since the morning. If you use a container with compartments like a bento box, that's even better.

The most important trick is making sure the lettuce is completely dry before putting it in the container, because moisture is what ruins everything; I use a salad spinner or just wrap it in paper towels. Then yeah, separate ingredients like the guy said, but I take it further: I put the crispy veggies (carrots, onions) in one compartment, the soft ones (tomato) in another, and the lettuce in yet another, all without dressing until it's time to eat. Dressing in a small jar is essential, but if you use vinegar or lemon instead of mayo you've already solved half the problem because they hold up better.
