I decided to update my bedroom, but removing the old paint from the walls is a nightmare. I read that you can paste wallpaper directly onto paint if it's holding up well. Will that actually work, or will everything fall off later? And what adhesive should I use?
You can glue them straight onto paint, but it's a gamble, not a reliable solution! Yeah, if the paint is holding perfectly and not peeling, wallpaper sometimes takes, but the risk that it'll come off in six months along with the paint is really high. It's way more reliable to at least scrape the walls with a putty knife - remove any flaking bits and go over them with sandpaper so the paint becomes matte and rough, which gives the adhesive better grip.
If you've already decided to take the path of least resistance, use a special adhesive for non-woven wallpaper - something like "for non-woven wallpaper" - it's stickier than regular wallpaper paste. But honestly, spend a couple hours on prep, and your room will last way longer!
