I've just started renovating my kitchen and I was wondering if I need to use special paint for the walls since I use the stove and oven a lot. I don't want it to get damaged right away from the humidity and heat.
It's not really the paint that's the main problem, honestly - kitchen steam is more about ventilation than paint quality. That said, yeah, you'd be better off with paint for humid rooms (look for "mold-resistant paint" or "kitchen paint"), preferably resin-based or siloxane, which handle moisture better than regular acrylic. But before you paint, make sure the steam actually goes away - a decent range hood is the real game changer, otherwise even the best paint in the world is going to end up getting stained with mold. Tell me though: do you already have a good hood, or are you planning to install one during the renovation?
