I have a 2015 air conditioner at home, and it works fine, so I'm not in a rush to change anything. If your old unit still cools properly and doesn't sound like a helicopter, there's no point in overpaying for an air purifier with cooling - these are two different functions, and usually in hybrids neither one works perfectly.
Actually, this isn't really about replacing your air conditioner, it's about different purposes. An air conditioner cools the air in your room, an air purifier filters out pollutants and dust. You can have both at the same time, and they won't interfere with each other.
If your unit from 2015 is working fine and you're happy with the climate, replacing it just for built-in purification is definitely overpaying. But here's the thing: old air conditioners usually have minimal filtration. If your city has dirty air, lots of dust, or someone in your house has allergies, cooling alone won't be enough. In that case, it makes sense to buy a separate good air purifier and leave your old air conditioner alone - it'll be cheaper than replacing the whole unit. But if the air quality is fine and nobody's bothered by anything, there's no point doing anything.
I'd check how your air conditioner's working: see if it smells musty, if there's condensation where there shouldn't be, when the filters were last cleaned. If everything's good - leave it as is and don't waste money.
