Swapping hot and cold water lines - how difficult is it?

We just rented an old apartment and noticed while showering that the knobs are switched - hot is on the left, cold is on the right. It's really frustrating. Can I just swap the hoses under the sink myself or do I really need to call a professional? I don't usually have much DIY experience.

I wouldn't recommend you doing it yourself if you don't have much experience - especially since water tends to leak out quickly and you can't see properly where the hoses actually go. But honestly, this is really a piece of cake for a tradesman, he'd probably need 10 minutes for it and it won't cost you a fortune. Alternatively, you could talk to your landlord - technically speaking, this is a defect in the apartment and it's actually his responsibility. Easiest would probably just be to live with it and start your shower with your left hand instead of your right when you shower, you get used to that faster than you'd think.

Swapping the hoses is actually the easiest part - just swap the two connections under the sink, takes two minutes and you basically just need a wrench. But with the shower it's more complicated, because usually the pipes run inside the wall and you can't just swap things around there. If you're not familiar with pipes, I'd really call a plumber - things can go wrong pretty quickly and the cost isn't that bad. But you can definitely give it a shot yourself with the sink.
