Hydrogen sulfide hot springs on Kamchatka are indeed geothermal resources, but not quite what's typically used for generating electricity. Hydrogen sulfide springs are hot mineral waters that emerge from the ground, often near volcanic activity. Their value is primarily in their therapeutic properties: such waters attract tourists to resorts and sanatoriums. There are several such places on Kamchatka, and they really do function as tourist destinations.

As for energy - yes, in principle geothermal springs can be used for heating and heat supply, and Kamchatka already has experience with that. But generating electricity from hydrogen sulfide springs is more complicated than tapping powerful geothermal fields. Actually, reducing electricity prices depends on many factors: distance from populated areas, intensity of heat flow, infrastructure. So it's more realistic to expect improvements in heat supply to nearby villages rather than a global price drop across the region. That would still be helpful, but don't expect miracles.

So discovering new hydrogen sulfide springs is more interesting for resort development than for energy production. If Kamchatka develops tourist infrastructure around these places, it could help the local economy, but that's a different story altogether.

Geothermal energy on Kamchatka is first and foremost heat, not electricity! Hydrogen sulfide springs can power heat energy stations for heating and hot water supply, which comes in handy in such a cold region, but generating electricity on a large scale requires completely different technologies and much higher temperatures. So yeah, it can help locals with heating, but don't expect some kind of energy revolution just because of one discovery!
