Water flosser vs traditional floss - which actually works better?

I've been using a Waterpik for about 6 months now after my dentist said my interdental cleaning wasn't great with regular floss. My gums seem healthier, but I'm wondering if I'm just fooling myself or if water flossers are actually as effective as what dentists recommend. Should I go back to traditional floss or stick with this?

Don't assume you need to pick one - if your gums actually look and feel better with the Waterpik, that's real results, not placebo. Water flossers work well for a lot of people, especially those who struggle with traditional floss or have implants/braces, though some studies suggest traditional floss still edges them out slightly for plaque removal between tight contacts - but the best floss is honestly the one you'll actually use consistently, so if the water flosser gets you doing it regularly, stick with it.
