Wedding invitations via WhatsApp or printed, what do you think?

How many guests are you inviting and what's the vibe of your wedding? If it's something intimate or casual, WhatsApp works great and you save money, but if it's a more formal or bigger wedding, printed invitations look more elegant and people take it more seriously (plus, a lot of grandparents or older people appreciate getting something physical). The reality is that nowadays most people mix it up: send printed ones to close family and older friends, and WhatsApp to everyone else.

It really depends on how you want people to remember the event. Printed invitations are keepsakes - people put them on the fridge and it's a detail that stands out; WhatsApp is practical but gets lost among a hundred messages a day. If money's not an issue, I'd go for printed ones even if they're something small, but I get that a lot of people nowadays find it easier to just send a text and be done with it.

Do you already have an idea of what tone you want for the event overall? I think printed invitations are nice but only if you're actually going to send them well in advance; if you leave them for the last minute, you end up sending WhatsApp messages anyway and it looks bad. With a message I can send all the details at once and people respond right away, so you know who's coming or not without having to chase people down.

Do people you invite via WhatsApp later complain that they missed it or say they didn't see it? Because that's the real risk - a message can get lost among a hundred conversations while a printed invitation sits right there. That said, if your circle is small and everyone's glued to their phones, it works, but for medium-sized weddings or where you've got people who aren't as connected, printed ones guarantee everyone finds out and they've got that special touch people appreciate.
