You are obsessing over it, yeah, but not in the way you think. The thing isn't whether the universe is sending you a message (spoiler: it's not), but why your brain is stuck on that image. Usually when we have a recurring dream it's because something's bothering us - could be stress, a worry you're not even consciously aware you have, or just because you woke up with that weird feeling and then kept dwelling on it, which makes your brain go back to the same place the next night.
The old house probably doesn't mean anything special. Your brain is probably just recycling random elements while it processes something that's actually going on in your real life. The important detail is that weird feeling you're getting - try to figure out what specifically is making you uncomfortable. Anxiety? Fear? That claustrophobic sensation? Sometimes when you nail down that detail and work on it, the dream just stops repeating on its own.
And about your friends talking about messages from the universe... tell them to drop it. The universe isn't dreaming along with you, your brain is just running on its own chasing down whatever worry it's got.
