What's causing constant lag spikes in my mobile games?

I've got a Galaxy A54 that's only 8 months old, and lately every game I play - whether it's Marvel Snap, Fortnite, or even Subway Surfers - starts getting really choppy after a few minutes. I've cleared cache and closed background apps but nothing helps. Is this a hardware issue or something else?

Lag spikes that hit after a few minutes usually point to thermal throttling - your phone's processor slowing down because it's overheating, not a hardware defect. Check if the back of the phone gets hot during gameplay; if it does, try playing in a cooler environment or with a thin case removed to rule that out. Also worth checking: go into your phone's developer settings and enable "Show CPU usage" or similar monitoring to see if something's spiking when the lag happens. If it's consistently one app, that app might have a bug, but if it's all games equally, clearing the cache for the Google Play Store itself (not just individual apps) and making sure you've got the latest OS update installed can help - sometimes a background process like Play Services has a memory leak that causes this.
