What type of soundproof glass should I put in windows for a noisy apartment?

I live on a pretty busy street in Madrid and the noise from cars is unbearable, especially at night. I've been told there are special types of glass that insulate better, but I don't know which one to pick or how much it's going to cost me to replace all the windows in the living room.

What you need is laminated glass or double glazing with laminated glass on the outer pane - that's the most effective for traffic noise. Regular double glazing helps quite a bit, but laminated glass is what really stops the noise because it absorbs vibrations, especially those low-frequency engine sounds that keep you awake at 3 in the morning.

As for the cost, replacing all the windows in your living room is going to be pricey (we're talking thousands of euros depending on how many you have), but some glaziers offer cheaper options like just replacing the glass and keeping the frame, or doing only the windows on the street side first. Before you make the big investment, check that the problem isn't also coming from worn seals or frames - sometimes that's what lets the noise through.
