Actually there are tons of legal options beyond Netflix 😄 you can download from platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play Movies, or Disney+ that have pretty complete catalogs.
If you want something cheaper or free, a lot of countries have ad-supported services like Pluto TV or Tubi, and some theaters also sell direct digital downloads. What I'd recommend is checking out what's available in your area because it varies quite a bit depending on the country.
What works best for you is checking if your local library has a digital platform, because many offer free movies with your library card.
I download quite a bit from there and it's legal, plus some new releases are available weeks after they come out.
If that doesn't work for you, cheap rental options on Google Play or Apple TV are affordable when there are promotions, and Tubi has free movies with ads if that doesn't bother you.
When I'm traveling by car and spend hours figuring out what to watch at motels, I discovered that Tubi has a huge catalog of movies you can download for free (with ads, though). There's also Pluto TV if you want something more like a traditional channel.
