The hemmer foot is what you need, because it guides the fabric evenly and creates a consistent fold while you sew. If you want even more precise results, pair the hemmer foot with a twin needle, which keeps the hem width perfectly symmetrical.
If you already have a hem foot but your hems are coming out crooked, try keeping the fabric slightly taut as you guide it through the foot, without forcing it - the tension on the top thread matters way more than the foot itself, and most people overlook that. A trick not many use: tape a strip of painter's tape on the machine's base in line with where you want the hem to fall, it helps you keep a visual reference much better than looking at the foot.
