The core problem is that glaciers are caught in a vicious cycle: the less ice there is, the less sunlight gets reflected, the more thermal radiation gets absorbed, the faster the rest melts. It's not just a question of "it's getting warmer" - it's a self-reinforcing process. If you drive through Tyrol in summer and see where snow used to be, that's exactly this effect. The glacier gets darker because the top layer of ice becomes dirty (dust, rock), and dark surfaces heat up extremely.
On top of that, there's the shift of the snow line upward. In the past, the line where it snows instead of rains in winter was lower in the mountains. Today you have to go higher to find clean fresh snow. That means glaciers at mid-range elevations - around 2000-2500 meters - simply don't get enough accumulation in winter to offset the melt volume in summer. A glacier is basically like a giant bank account: if you're always depositing less and withdrawing more every summer, the balance gets smaller - and that's exactly what's happening there right now.
The thing is also not limited to one place. Warming in the Alps is proportionally much stronger than the global average because at higher elevations the air mass is thinner and has less heat storage capacity. That's a well-known phenomenon called "elevation-dependent warming." You'll probably see even more drastic changes in the coming years if things keep going the way they are.
