Have you ever noticed on your computer how a small pot heats up faster than a large one?
Basically that's what's happening to the Mediterranean, but over the course of years. Global climate change heats everything up, but in a closed and shallow sea like ours, the heat gets trapped there with no way out - there's no strong ocean circulation to disperse it like in the Atlantic.
What bothers me is that some people think this is just a thing from this summer or that it's cyclical, when I've been watching beaches for 27 years and the trend is clear: each decade the water arrives warmer and stays that way longer, so it's not some accident in 2026, it's a pattern that's been going on for years.
