Why does my phone get so hot when I charge the battery?
My Samsung A54 gets really hot when it's charging, especially if I use it while it's charging. Is that normal or is my charger bad? I'm worried about damaging the battery.

The A54 gets hot because it's doing two jobs at the same time: charging the battery and running apps, which overloads the charging circuit. If the phone gets so hot it hurts to touch, then there might be a problem - either the charger is too weak and forces the battery to work harder, or the battery is degrading. The best thing is to charge it without using the phone, and if it's still too hot anyway, try it with another original Samsung charger to rule that out.
It's totally normal for your phone to get hot while charging, especially if you're using it at the same time. Lithium-ion batteries release heat when they're receiving power, and if you're running heavy apps, watching videos, or gaming while charging, it gets way hotter because it's processing and charging simultaneously. The Samsung A54 has decent heat dissipation, but nothing exceptional.
What you can do to improve it: take the case off your phone while charging (cases heat up a lot), avoid using heavy apps during charging, and keep your phone in a ventilated place. If your original Samsung charger gets lukewarm or too hot, then that could be a problem - generic or damaged chargers tend to deliver more voltage and heat up quite a bit. Test it with the original charger if you have access to one.
