I'm trying to photograph Saturn with my phone through a simple telescope I bought, but I've never seen it so clear in the sky before. My grandfather said it's because of opposition, but I didn't really understand. Can someone explain it better?
Saturn is in opposition this year, which means it's on the opposite side of the Sun relative to Earth, and that's why it gets much closer and brighter than usual. Basically, when a planet is in opposition, we can see it better because it receives more reflected sunlight and is in its ideal position for observation, so your simple telescope can pick up so much brightness.
