It really depends on how you use it. I've had a 14-inch for 2 years and it's perfect for what I do. As a delivery driver, I don't need anything huge, just portability. It's true that 14 is more compact, it fits everywhere, it's light to carry from one place to another. Then 15-inch, it's not crazy either in terms of weight these days, especially if it's an ultrabook, but with the 14 you'll really feel the difference in a backpack, like for a long trip.
For mobility, the 14 is your friend. Clearly more practical when traveling, on a train, in a café, anywhere. You generally get better battery life too since the screen is smaller. On the other hand you gotta understand that you'll be working a bit more cramped, that's for sure. The 15-inch gives you more screen space for your eyes and it's more comfortable if you're working on it for long periods. But honestly, if you're on the move a lot, don't get the 15, you'll regret it. I do kayaking on weekends and even with my 14 I find it a bit heavy in my car sometimes, so yeah the 15 would be too much.
The thing nobody really mentions is the combined weight and thickness of the bag or the edge of your desk. I have a friend who got a 15-inch saying "it's just one more inch," but when you're carrying it around everywhere in your house or on trips, it gets heavy after a while. The 14-inch fits everywhere - in small spaces, on a little table, on your lap without crushing your legs. On the other hand, if you're using it 8 hours a day, the 15-inch screen actually wins quite a bit in visual comfort - your eyes won't get as tired.
The real question is: do you actually take it places often, or do you mostly use it at home and nearby? Because if you're carrying it everywhere (cafes, friends' places, traveling), the 14 is still the best choice. But if you really want screen comfort and you're mostly leaving it in one spot, the 15-inch is definitely more pleasant for working long hours without straining your eyes. The weight difference is like 200-300g, which sounds like nothing on paper but you definitely feel it in your hands after a few trips.
The thing people often forget about is the actual weight! A 14-inch can be 1.2 kg and a 15-inch 1.8 kg, but over time when you're carrying it every day, it's really not the same thing. I noticed that when I was moving my plants around the house - you move the small pots without thinking about it, but with the big ones you plan your routes! Same with a laptop, if you're really taking it places (backpack, work outdoors, coffee shops...), the 14-inch is honestly way more comfortable in the long run.
Then you've got to see what you actually do. If you're watching movies, working on complicated Excel sheets or video editing, a 15-inch changes your life for your eyes! But if it's mostly checking emails, a bit of word processing, streaming, the 14 is more than enough and you get a ton of portability. You adapt to the smaller screen pretty quick, it's not like you're watching on a watch!
The real test is asking yourself: are you actually going to drag it everywhere or is it going to sit on your desk? If you're the type to move between rooms, from the terrace to inside, let's say the 14-inch is clearly less tiring. Plus a modern 14-inch isn't some calculator screen either, the space is pretty decent!
