Anyone else having trouble with circular needles splitting yarn?

I've been knitting with bamboo circular needles for about a month now and keep accidentally splitting my yarn, especially when I'm doing smaller stitches. It's really slowing me down and making me frustrated. Is this just a learning curve thing or should I switch to metal needles?

It's definitely a learning curve thing, but bamboo needles are actually more prone to snagging than metal because they're slightly rougher and slower. The good news is that splitting usually gets better as you develop a steadier tension and hand position - I found that slowing down and being more deliberate with each stitch helped loads. If you're still frustrated after another month or two, metal needles (especially the slicker ones) might give you fewer catches, but honestly the real fix is just time and practice with what you've got.
