I bought a set of bamboo knitting needles from a brand I saw recommended on TikTok and I've already had two break on me. I'm working on a scarf and it's frustrating because metal needles are super expensive. Is it bad quality or am I doing something wrong?
Bamboo is fragile, yeah, but two needles breaking is a sign that something's off - either the brand is really bad or you're using needles that are way too thin for the yarn weight/tension you have.
What size are your needles and what kind of yarn are you using? because if you're working with something really heavy with thin needles, they're gonna break.
Anyway, if the brand was recommended on TikTok there's a pretty good chance it's cheap quality, so maybe it'd be worth saving up a bit more to get metal needles that actually work - they last forever and aren't even that expensive if you find them secondhand or wait for a sale.

What's probably happening is you got one of those trendy kits from the internet with really flimsy material, because bad bamboo needles start to splinter and crack for no apparent reason. Before you blame your tension or the yarn, what exactly is the brand and size you bought? If it's something super cheap like 5 or 10 reais for a set, then yeah it's just poor quality - unfortunately TikTok is full of recommendations for products that look good in photos but don't last at all.
