Best impact driver vs regular drill for home projects?

I'm trying to figure out if I should invest in an impact driver or if my current cordless drill is enough. I mostly do light assembly, hanging shelves, and occasional deck work. Does an impact driver really make that much difference for someone who's not doing professional work?
