Canson XL series is solid for the price and holds up way better than random sketch pads - I've used it for years and it takes water surprisingly well without buckling too badly if you're not soaking it. If you want to go even cheaper, some folks swear by Strathmore 400 Series, though I find it a bit thin for my taste.
