Brakes squealing even though the pads are new

I recently had the brake pads on my Renault replaced at a shop and they're still squeaking a ton when I brake. It's really annoying because you can hear it from far away. The pads are a well-known brand but the noise won't go away. What could be going on? Do I need to ask them to check the discs or is there something else?

The same thing happened to me with my car, and it turned out the rotors were worn unevenly, so even though the pads were new, the squeaking kept happening. The first thing I'd recommend is having the shop check the rotors - if they're badly worn, scored, or have uneven wear, that causes that annoying noise even with quality pads.

Another thing that can happen is the pads aren't the right ones for your specific model or they ended up misaligned, but honestly the most common issue in these cases is that the rotors need resurfacing or replacement, so make sure you ask them to inspect them properly.

The squeaking with new pads almost always comes from worn discs or ones with micro-cracks, like they've already told you, but there's a detail people forget: sometimes the shop doesn't clean the dirt and rust buildup on the discs properly before installing the new pads, and that amplifies the noise like crazy! Ask them to check if the discs have uneven spots or if they just need a good cleaning and resurfacing, because if they're gonna stick us with expenses anyway, might as well do it all right the first time.
