You can make a really solid cobb with like half the ingredients a restaurant uses. i throw together romaine lettuce, rotisserie chicken (which saves so much time), bacon, hard boiled eggs, avocado and tomato. that's legitimately it and it tastes amazing. you don't need all the extra stuff they pile on - the key is just getting those core flavors and textures right.

the one thing i'd say is worth doing is actually cooking the bacon fresh instead of using the pre-cooked stuff, at least if you have time. also when i'm prepping at home i just chop everything pretty small and toss it together with a basic vinaigrette - olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt and pepper. none of my neighbors are gonna judge my cobb salad so it doesn't have to look picture perfect on the plate like restaurants do lol. i usually just make mine in a big bowl and serve it right there.

pro tip from my gardening side - if you grow tomatoes (or know someone who does) use those instead of supermarket ones. seriously changes the whole thing. and if you're making it regularly the rotisserie chicken is a lifesaver since i'm tired after being on my feet at the clinic all day. takes like 5 minutes to shred it. sometimes i'll add a little crumbled blue cheese if i have it but that's really optional depending on what you like

Totally doable. The restaurant version looks fancy but honestly you don't need much. At its core you've got lettuce (romaine or whatever you have), chicken, bacon, eggs, avocado, tomato, and blue cheese. That's it. Those are the real essentials. Most home cooks just do those and call it a day, and it's genuinely great.

For the dressing just do a basic vinaigrette - olive oil, red wine vinegar, maybe a little mustard, salt and pepper. Some people add a splash of lemon juice. Takes like a minute to shake together. If you want it creamier you could do ranch or blue cheese dressing instead, depends what you're feeling.

As for actual prep, chop your lettuce and put it in a bowl, then arrange everything on top in rows or sections - that's where the Cobb gets its visual appeal, makes it look restaurant-quality even if you're using basic ingredients. Cook your bacon till it's crispy and chop it up, boil an egg or two, slice your avocado and tomato, crumble some blue cheese. Honestly I throw these together after long shifts driving sometimes and it's one of my favorite quick meals. Don't stress about being perfect with it.
