To be honest, the base "Carcassonne" game has plenty of content if you're just starting out. I myself love board games and often see people buying expansions too early - it's when you really get sick of it that you should think about buying one. Try playing for another month or two, learn all the possibilities of the base game, and if you honestly get bored with it - then an expansion will be a real find instead of money down the drain.

I'll nod in agreement - the fundamentals are enough, I spent like three months just breaking down the basics in the car on weekends, kept drilling it until I really felt the mechanics of it all. Pick up the advanced stuff when the basics become totally predictable and you're craving something new, not before that.

I think the basics will be enough for you for a couple more months too, especially if you play regularly 🎲 When you start feeling like you already know all the moves ahead of time and it gets boring - that's when an expansion will definitely come in handy!

The folks above already said it right - the base game will definitely last you at least a couple more months! I was in the same situation once, and honestly, I regretted spending the money later because I bought the expansion way too early. Play until you're completely sick of the base game, until you start predicting every move! And then, if you want to - that's when you grab the expansion, and it'll feel like pure magic to you!
