Bought the basic set a month ago, I've played it like 15 times already. My friends are telling me to get the expansion, but I don't feel like spending the money. Does it get boring without them?
To be honest, the base "Carcassonne" game has plenty of content if you're just starting out.
I myself love board games and often see people buying expansions too early - it's when you really get sick of it that you should think about buying one. Try playing for another month or two, learn all the possibilities of the base game, and if you honestly get bored with it - then an expansion will be a real find instead of money down the drain.
I'll nod in agreement - the fundamentals are enough, I spent like three months just practicing the basics in the car on weekends, kept drilling it until I really felt the mechanics of it all. Pick up the advanced stuff when the basics become totally predictable and you're craving something new, not before that.
