Hyaluronic acid does work, but here's the thing: if you have heating or air conditioning that dries out the air, the serum without extra moisturizing can actually backfire. I apply it straight onto damp toner, wait a minute, and then go straight to cream - that way the acid molecules are already "soaked" with moisture and don't pull it from your skin, they give it back instead.
How often do you use serum? It helps, but it's not a miracle cure - your skin becomes more firm and hydrated if you apply it regularly. The key thing is that hyaluronic acid draws in moisture and you need to seal it with a cream on top, otherwise it evaporates quickly. It won't work on deep wrinkles, but you'll definitely see a noticeable effect on skin firmness and smoothness.
It helps, but with one important condition - you need to apply it to damp skin and then seal it with a cream. If you just spray the serum on dry skin and leave it, the acid will start pulling moisture from the deeper layers of your skin, and it'll actually get drier instead. I tested this on myself - at first I was doing it wrong, then I figured out it was about the application technique.
From what I've noticed: your skin does become softer and looks fresher, especially if your skin tends to be dry or dehydrated. But it's not a game-changer, more of a supporting treatment in your routine. You'll see results after two or three weeks of regular use, not after the first application.
One more thing - the concentration of hyaluronic acid varies a lot between different serums, and cheaper options often have very little of it. If you have skin issues (inflammation, serious dryness), a serum is something you add to your treatment, not a replacement for it.
Everyone's right about hydration and sealing, but nobody mentioned molecular weight. Serums come with different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid - high molecular weight stays on the surface and hydrates the skin, while low molecular weight penetrates deeper. Ideally you'd want both in the formula, but if you're picking just one, check the label. It makes a real difference in how well it works.
