Google Drive is probably your best choice if you need free storage - 15 GB come standard, it works on most devices, and you can create documents directly in the cloud. It's really convenient when you need to quickly share something with family or back up photos.

Besides that, there's Mega (50 GB free, but download speeds can be slow), OneDrive from Microsoft (5 GB free if you're already using Windows), Sync.com (5 GB free, pretty solid for privacy), and Nextcloud - though Nextcloud is more technically demanding and better suited for people who have their own server. For families wanting to share files, I'd also mention iCloud Drive if everyone's in the Apple ecosystem.

What works best really depends on what you need: pure storage, document collaboration, or maximum privacy. I'd still recommend trying Google Drive first - mainly because it's so straightforward to use.

I wouldn't just grab any sketchy cloud service just because it's free - some of them are a complete privacy nightmare.

Microsoft's OneDrive is actually underrated, you get 5 GB for nothing and if you're already using Windows anyway, it just runs in the background without you having to configure much.

Seafile or Synology as self-hosted solutions are pretty nice too if you want some control over your data, but they do require a bit more setup.

Nextcloud is a good choice if privacy matters to you - you can host a free instance with various providers or set it up yourself, then you have full control over your data and no annoying limits like with the big players.
