Apparently there's a student who went from creating YouTube content to actually being selected for The Great British Bake Off. Pretty interesting career path jump - might be worth a read if you're into baking competition shows or curious how social media presence helps get on TV these days.

That's not really how it works - social media presence alone doesn't get you onto Bake Off, it's more that having an existing audience just gives you something to mention in your application alongside your actual baking skills. The show's casting team looks for people who can actually bake competently and tell an interesting story, so if someone with a YouTube following got selected, it was because they genuinely impressed the bakers and producers in the audition process, not because they were famous. Having content out there might make your application stand out in a pile, but it won't substitute for knowing your way around a kitchen.
