The most practical thing is to separate them by category (taxes, utilities, health, warranties) and keep each group in labeled cardboard folders or numbered thick envelopes. For anything you need to check often, a tabbed folder right in your desk works great. Everything else goes in file boxes in a closet or under the bed, and take a photo of the spine label so you have quick reference on your phone. If papers pile up too much, digitize the older ones with a simple app (a photo of each page is fine) and save them in computer folders or the cloud, then throw away the originals if they don't have legal value.
