How do I choose between a general degree and a vocational degree?

I'm in my final year of secondary school and I need to decide on my education for next year. A lot of people tell me that a professional degree is better for finding work, but I'm not really sure what the difference is between that and a regular degree. Is it true that a professional degree closes doors for continuing on to a master's afterwards?

The real difference is that a general degree gives you more flexibility to continue into a master's program afterward, whereas a professional degree prepares you directly for the job market with internships and concrete projects. It's not that a professional degree closes doors for a master's, but it's true that some master's programs prefer general degree backgrounds, so you really need to check before committing. Honestly, if you already know the field that interests you and you want to start working right after graduation, the professional degree is solid; but if you're still unsure or you might change your mind later, the general degree offers more opportunities to pivot.

A general degree gives you more flexibility to explore and change direction later, whereas a professional degree is really focused on specific skills and getting into the job market fast 🎓 It's true there are fewer pathways to continue to a master's after a professional degree, but it totally depends on what you want to do - if you already know your field and want to start working quickly, go for it; otherwise keep your options open with a regular degree!
