Don't buy seeds treated with pesticides or from generic plant nurseries that don't specify whether they're edible, because many ornamental flowers are toxic. Nasturtiums, pansies, calendula, and borage grow easily in almost any garden - just need sun and decent well-draining soil; nasturtiums are pretty much indestructible and flower from May until the first frosts.

If you want to add other varieties, try dwarf nasturtium (more compact), calendula (beautiful orange and yellow), wild violets, and maybe some zucchini flowers if you have the space. The important thing is to start with seeds explicitly labeled as edible, not whatever you find at a regular garden center.
