How much direct sunlight does your balcony get? If you've got at least 6-8 hours of sun daily, you're golden - I've grown cherry tomatoes in containers on my fire escape for years and they do great. Determinate varieties (the bushy ones) work better than sprawling indeterminate types in tight spaces. Just make sure your pots are at least 5 gallons, use decent draining soil, and water consistently since containers dry out faster than ground soil.

Laura asker My balcony gets about 7-8 hours of direct sun, so that sounds promising. Thanks for the container size tip - I'll grab 5-gallon pots and go with determinate varieties.
