The first thing you need to do is invest in a decent chair because back pain will mess up everything else (and health is non-negotiable!). For the cables, get some cable trays or just tie everything together with reusable velcro - it's cheap and works great. Organize your papers with basic folders or painted cardboard boxes, nothing fancy, and keep only what you use daily on your desk. A small tray or basket for "pending tasks" also helps a ton so you don't feel overwhelmed!

The chair matters, sure, but before you drop money on that, check if the problem is just the desk height or monitor position - a lot of people get back pain because their monitor's too low or too far away. As for cables, cable trays work but the real trick is not having so many in the first place: run everything through a power strip with a switch so you can turn it off when you're done, plus you save on electricity that way. With papers, what actually works is not letting them pile up: every day before you leave, toss whatever you don't need or scan it if it's important, because if you wait to organize them all at once later it becomes a hours-long task and you'll never get to it.
