How do I stop mindless snacking while working from home?

I've been working remotely for about two years now and I've noticed I snack way more than I used to in an office. I'll get through a whole bag of chips or cookies without even realizing it while I'm focused on emails or meetings. What are some actual strategies that work to break this habit?

Are you eating because you're actually hungry, or just because the food's there and your hands need something to do?

The biggest thing that worked for me was keeping snacks completely out of arm's reach - like, actually inconvenient to get. I'd keep fruit or nuts in the kitchen and literally not have chips within three feet of my desk. When you have to get up and walk for it, your brain catches up and asks "do I actually want this?" most of the time. Also helps to have a specific snack time rather than grazing all day - like 10am and 3pm - so you're not just autopilot eating whenever. If it's really a fidget thing and not hunger, sometimes a stress ball or keeping your hands busy with something else works better than food anyway.
