How do you find meaning when everyone's obsessed with optimizing their life?

I've noticed lately that everything is about productivity hacks, morning routines, and self-optimization. People are constantly tracking their sleep, their workouts, their meditation minutes. But I'm wondering - does all this optimization actually lead to a meaningful life, or are we just chasing metrics that don't matter?

The optimization stuff works best when it's a means to something, not the goal itself - like, tracking your sleep matters if better rest lets you actually do things you care about, not because the number itself means anything. I think the trap is treating life like a spreadsheet when meaning usually comes from the messier stuff: relationships that don't scale, projects that "fail" by metrics but matter to you, time spent on things nobody's optimizing for. The people I know who seem genuinely satisfied aren't the ones obsessing over every habit; they're the ones who picked a few things that actually aligned with what they wanted, then moved on to living instead of tweaking.
