I'm going to my first real concert in November and I'm not really sure where to position myself. It's electronic music, so I'm wondering if I should be close to the stage or if it's better to be in the stands to see the overall vibe? People on the forum who have experience with this, what would you recommend?
I've been to concerts where people thought being close to the stage was always better, but with electronic music you risk getting stuck right against the speakers and not hearing much because of distortion - it's pretty common for the sound to actually be worse a few meters from the mixing console than it is at a distance. Try to find out where the venue's "sweet spot" is (usually it's marked on the seating maps), that's where the sound is properly balanced, and after that it really depends on whether you want to dance in the chaos or enjoy the visuals and the DJ's stage presence.
It really depends on what you're after: if you want to feel the bass and be in the energy of the crowd, stay close to the stage where you'll get the sound vibrations; if you'd rather see the DJ and the whole show with the visuals and lights, the stands give you a better view. Personally I'd first check out how the venue is set up to see where the speakers are and how it's organized.
For electronic music it's really about what you prefer to experience! If you like feeling the bass in your whole body and being at the heart of the energy, stay as close to the stage as you can or on the dance floor - DJs often play with the lights and visuals so you get way more out of it up close. If you prefer something more chill and want to see the whole show with the crowd around you, the bleachers are perfect for that and you can really appreciate how everything comes together.
Honestly, for a first electronic concert I'd say dance floor close to the stage if you're up for dancing and letting the music carry you, otherwise bleachers if you want to keep things more relaxed!
