It really depends on your goals and your current fitness level. If you're just starting out, 3x a week is a solid start - it gives your body enough time to recover and you get used to training without overdoing it. If you've been training for a while and have concrete goals like building muscle or increasing strength, then 4-5x a week is realistic, as long as you don't overdo it. Some people think the more the better, but that's a beginner's mistake - recovery is just as important as the training itself.

Personally, I go to the gym 4x a week, but I do split training so each muscle group has enough time to recover. That works better for me than training everywhere every single day. It's also important that you stay consistent - 3x a week over several months is better than 6x one week and then nothing after that. Listen to your body: if you notice you're constantly tired and irritable or you're not making progress with your training anymore, then you're probably training too often.

At the start, I'd recommend not trying to do too much. Better to start moderate and increase when your body's adapted to the strain. And don't forget - your nutrition and sleep play a huge role, just like training at the gym does.

A lot of people make the mistake of training too often and then feeling burnt out or getting injured - less is really more, especially at the beginning. I'd say start with 3 times a week and see how your body responds, whether you have enough energy for work and whether you can stick with the workouts without forcing yourself. If that goes well, you can ramp it up later, but consistency beats extreme frequency.
