I always keep the bulk of my money in my account - it's safer that way and I still get some interest, even though it's pennies now. I only take cash for the road, because when traveling around Russia cards are accepted everywhere anyway, and driving around with a lot of cash in your car just feels uncomfortable. If a really large sum builds up, you can put part of it in some reliable deposit - at least it protects you from inflation.
Do you even have an emergency fund? Because that's fundamentally important for making the right choice!
A savings account is obviously great, especially if you're getting at least some interest like you're saying. But the thing is, you can't forget about inflation! Even if the bank gives you 5-6% annually in 2026, and inflation eats up the same amount or more, your money is actually losing purchasing power. Plus, the deposit insurance system works, and yeah, that's more reassuring. But I'd still split my savings. The bulk of it - in the account, that makes sense. But some money, literally enough for a few months of expenses, I'd keep as cash at home, somewhere safe.
The thing is, cash saves your life in an emergency! Thirteen years in the business taught me that disasters happen out of nowhere. I keep my emergency fund split - part in the bank, part at home. When you urgently need money and for some reason the systems aren't working, you don't panic. From my own experience: better safe than sorry. And yeah, I'm not talking about all your savings - I'm talking about an emergency safety cushion! The rest should be working in the bank, even if it's just pennies in interest, but that's better than your money under the pillow getting eaten by inflation.
