How to add white borders to photos in GIMP?
I have some old photos in JPEG that I want to give a more retro touch, like those old Polaroids. Does anyone know how to add a thick white border around the image in GIMP without it being complicated?

Don't try using edge filters because you won't get that Polaroid effect you're after. The easiest way is to go to Image > Canvas Size, then you expand the image up, down, and to the sides by however many pixels you want for the border (around 50-100 pixels usually looks good), set the background color to white, and then center your original photo in that new space. After that you just make sure the background layer is white and you're done - you'll get that retro vibe you're looking for.
