On Amazon and Mercado Libre, discount codes typically expire anywhere from a week to several months, so the real trick is not to save them for "later" but to use them when you already have something in your cart that you were going to buy anyway. The problem with waiting until the last minute is that a lot of times the code expires right when you need it, or the product you wanted is no longer available. Better strategy: when you see a discount, check the expiration date in the terms and conditions (it usually shows up on the same coupon page) and if the offer covers something you already planned to buy, use it right away instead of hoarding it.

I usually check my discount codes right before buying something I needed anyway, that way I make sure to use them before they go to waste. Most platforms let you know in the "my coupons" or "my promotions" section when they expire, so it's just a matter of going in there every now and then and seeing what you've got available. If you find a code you're interested in but don't need anything right now, jot it down on your phone with the expiration date so you don't forget. What works well too is turning on notifications from the brands you usually shop from, because they tend to send new codes all the time and you've got more time to use them.

The worst thing you can do is pile up codes without knowing when they expire and wait until the last minute to use them 😅 What I do is save them in my phone's notes with the expiration date really clear, and every time I'm about to make a purchase I go through the list before I put anything in the cart. That way I kill two birds with one stone: I don't forget any of them and I also avoid impulse buys just because "I had a code to spend". With Mercado Libre especially you have to go to the "My Discounts" section or whatever it's called to see them all in one place, because otherwise it's easy to lose track of which one is still good and which one's already gone.
